How safe Is your Ford Car

Active Safety:

The new Mondeo features a number of significant new active safety technologies to watch over the vehicle and help prevent accidents from happening.

Ready to react are the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, which constantly monitors tyre pressure and sounds a warning if it falls. Run Flat Tyres which assists you to drive safely if a puncture occurs. (Optional)

Then there’s the Adaptive Front Lighting System (standard on Titanium X) which lets you see around corners and Bi-Xeon High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps (optional on Zetec and above), twice as bright as standard Halogen lights, so others are sure to notice your presence.

Intelligent Protection System:

A host of new features have been integrated in the new Mondeo's Intelligent Protection System (IPS). Beneath the steel safety cages lies a comprehensive airbag system all ready to spring into action in a fraction of a second.

State of the art airbags, three point seatbelts allround, optimised pre tensioners and load limiters, advance steering system, anti submarining seatframes and pedals and improvements to the neck injury protection system provide all occupants with a highly comprehensive safety system.

Roll Over Protection Device (RPD):

The Focus Coupe Cabriolet’s Roll Over Protection Device provides powerful protection for you and your passengers, but you’ll never know it’s there. Neatly hidden from view, it can deploy ultra strong rollover bars to shield you in milliseconds.

Euro NCAP Safety:

Best ever score for a right hand drive vehicle.
Galaxy’s rating is in fact the highest score for a right hand drive car that Euro NCAP has ever seen. It also notched up excellent totals for front and side impact tests. Together with Focus and the recently tested S Max, Ford now offers three vehicles that have achieved Euro NCAP’s maximum 5 star rating for adult protection, and with 2 stars and 15 points Galaxy also achieved a very competitive result for pedestrian protection.

The Ford Ranger is equipped with a series of advanced safety features.

Safety features include:

Front and passenger airbags

Front seat side airbags (available on XLT and Thunder)

Anti submarining front seats

Height adjustable front seat head restraints

Two height adjustable rear seat head restraints on Double Cab

Child proof rear door locks on Double Cab

Collapsible steering column

Elevated command driving position

Large exterior mirrors for enhanced rearwards vision

State of the art body strength:

Improved body strength combined with lightweight impact technology makes the all new Ford Focus one of the safest cars on the road. The high strength steel cabin includes laser welded panels surrounded by energy absorbing zones, cross beams, and reinforcements. An advanced chassis safety system allows components to move under the floor in the event of an impact.

ISOFIX child seats:

An ISOFIX child seat can be specially attached to the rear row seating with reinforced anchor points. The seat is still removable, but is anchored to the body structure of the car improving child safety. It also means that installing the seat is easier and less open to mistakes. An ISOFIX child seat is certified to be the safest option for use in the Ford Focus.

A child seat should never be placed in the front seat when the vehicle is equipped with an operational front passenger airbag. The safest place for children is properly restrained in the rear seat.

Classic Cars from Ford

An antique car is generally defined as a car over 25 years of age, this being the definition used by the Antique Automobile Club of America and many other organizations worldwide. However, the legal definition for the purpose of antique vehicle registration varies widely.

25 years is about double the
design life of modern cars and an even greater increment on those cars now 25 years old; therefore, a car that's reached 25 is a rare survivor, and probably not economic to maintain as regular transportation.

Owning, restoring and collecting antique cars is a popular
hobby worldwide.

Some consider such collectables be a form of
investment. Buying a particular antique car is then done primarily in view of profit in a future sale and not of enjoying a drive or taking pleasure in restoration work. As with art collecting, antique car collecting is another form of gambling. The market for antique cars fluctuates wildly over the years. There have been periods, like the 1980's, which have seen strong and continued increase in price, but other periods (e.g. the early 1990's) which saw precipitous declines.

As with all collectible antiques, current value has everything to do with current supply vs. demand, and very little else; certainly little to do with the car's price when new or any objective standard. Thus, rare cars that are highly desired are highly expensive, while vehicles that are not
fashionable to collect can be very cheap. Condition, of course, influences value. At the present time, the variation in purchase price between a poor condition and good condition vehicle is generally much less than the cost of restoring a poor condition car; thus it is cheaper in the long run to buy the better vehicle.

In some instances, professional restorers can, through economy of scale and performing the work in-house, realise a profit from buying an unrestored car and performing a restoration. This is normally only possible when the car is in high demand and either very rare (e.g. old
Ferraris) or quite common (e.g. classic Ford Mustangs). Amateur restorers who are highly skilled may find it cheaper to restore than buy in good condition, but this is through considering their labor as enjoyment rather than as a cost.

Realising much long-term profit in owning an antique car is mostly about attempting to anticipate future changes in taste, which is highly
speculative. Most cars go through a period of being considered merely old and undesirable before becoming valuable, and a car bought then might drastically increase in value. However, a car is a large object that is expensive to store and must be maintained, which cuts into such profits.

The new Mondeo will preview as a stylish estate, an ideal bodystyle to preview the sporty, expressive appearance of the upcoming range.

As you may have heard over recent weeks, the law on using child restraints in cars and light vehicles has now changed, ensuring greater protection for your children. Talk to your dealer for details of which Ford vehicles have ISOfix mounting points. With market leading Britax as the child seat supplier to Ford. You will have a name you will know and trust, which will offer your children the highest level of protection avilable.

From Spring 2006, the proposed law requires that all children have to use a restraint appropriate for their size and will no longer be able to use an adult seat belt alone in the front or rear seats, if under a certain height. The new legislation proposes the following key changes, enforced from 18th September 2006.

All children under 3 years old must use an appropriate child restraint when travelling in a car or goods vehicle (except in a taxi if a child seat is not available)

Children between 3 years and up to 12 years (or up to 135cms, approximately 4'5" in height), must use a child restraint appropriate for their size when travelling in a car or goods vehicles fitted with seat belts (few exceptions are permitted)

Rear-facing baby seats must not be used in seats with an active front air-bag

All child restraints must conform to modern safety standards, meaning UN-ECE Regulation 44.04 from May 2008

The Ford Transit journey

The first Ford Transit was introduced in 1965, and has been in continuous production in three basic generations to the present day.1965-1978. The Transit was a huge departure from the European commercial vehicles of the day its broad track and American inspired styling gave it a huge advantage in carrying capacity over comparable vehicles of the day and revolutionised light goods transport. Most of the Transit's mechanical components were adapted from Ford's car range of the time. Another key to the Transit's success was the sheer number of different body styles, panel vans in long and short wheelbase forms, pick-up trucks, minibuses and crew cabs.

1978-1986. In Early 1978, a facelifted version commonly known in some markets as the "Mark 2" model debuted with a restyled nose section, new interior, and the introduction of the pinto engine from the Cortina in sted of the Essex V4. High performance versions intended for police or ambulance use, used the 3.0 L V6 version of the engine. In 1984, the York diesel engine was redesigned into the 2.4L "DI" (direct injection) unit. Late in its life this generation received a minor facelift including a black rubberised front grille with integrated headlamp surrounds, which had previously been body coloured.

1986-1991 & minor facelift 1991-1994. A new version appeared in Early 1986 and was notable for its all new bodyshell which was of "one box" design (i.e. the windscreen and bonnet are at the same angle), and the front suspension was changed to a fully independent configuration on all but chassis cab and LWB versions. A subtle facelift in 1992 saw this feature rolled out across the range, whilst a redesigned floorpan allowed the use of single rear wheels on the LWB derivative, further increasing payload.

1994-2000. A major facelift to the Transit in 1994/5 gave the Transit a new nose and dashboard, along with the 2.0L DOHC 8 valve engine as found in the 1994-1998 Scorpio. At the same time air con was made available as an optional extra too.

2000-2006 features controls mounted on the dashboard, a specially adapted manual mode, tow haul mode, economy mode and winter mode. Two years later, Ford introduced the Transit Connect, a smaller panel van aimed at replacing the older Escort and Fiesta based models. It shares very little with the full size Transit in terms of engineering,

2006-Present. In August 2006 the Transit received a facelift to the body, including new front and rear lights, a new front end and a new interior featuring the gearstick on the dashboard as well as incorporating Ford's new corporate radio design. This version won the International Van Of The Year 2007 award despite tough competition from several all new rivals.

The Upside of Buying a Ford

The upside to buying a Ford is that it basically sells it self, now below you'll find exactly how and were their best rated. Along with this, Ford also have a great safty rating on their cars, although you should come to expect it's on more newer cars then older ones.

Although the Ford Galaxy is at #4, there was only 2 MPV's chosen as the best for alround, the Vauxhall Zafira and the Galaxy. And the Galaxy was the one on top in the end.

(New & Used), #5. not bad - #1. excellent.
"supermini" top 5
#1.) Fiesta: (used) A brilliant all-rounder, plenty available and low in price.
#4.) Ka: (used) You only get three doors, so it's not as practical as some, but it's cheap and easy to live with.

(New & Used), #5. not bad - #1. excellent.
"Small family car" top 5
#1.) Focus: (used) Loads to choose from, good to look at and drive.
# 3.) Focus: (new) Still the best small hatch to drive. It's spacious and good value, but rides firmly.

(New & Used), #5. not bad - #1. excellent.
"Family car" top 5
#1.) Mondeo: (used) Great to drive, comfortable and good value for money.
#5.) Mondeo: (new) Ford's best ever fleet and family car. Great to drive, practical and well built, though a bit pricey.

(New & Used), #5. not bad - #1. excellent.

"Estates" top 5
#4.) Focus: (used) Good space in the boot and still as brilliant to drive as the hatchback.

(New & Used), #5. not bad - #1. excellent.
"MPV's" top 5
#4.) Galaxy: (used) Lots of space, comfortable and good to drive a bargain of an MPV.
#4.) Galaxy: (new) Spacious, flexible, fine-driving Galaxy is a car that most people will find very easy to live with.

(New & Used), #5. not bad - #1. excellent.
"Coupes" top 5
#3.) Puma: (used) A distinctive coupe on robust Fiesta underpinnings. Excellent fun to drive as well.

And the next blog will be called (The Ford Transit journey).

Ford Mustangs 1964 to present

When the Mustang debuted in 1964, it had a large number of available options. The long list of optional equipment enabled buyers to fully customize their cars to their style, tastes and budgets. It also resulted in typical transaction prices hundreds of dollars above the base price, making the Ford Mustang profitable not only for the dealer but also for the manufacturer. 1969 saw the introduction of both the car's third body style and a hand built muscle car intended solely to satisfy the rules of the Nascar, the Boss 429.

1969 to 1970. The 1969 featured a 302 cid V8 rated at 220 bhp. The 1969 coupe was longer than previous models and sported convex rather than previously concave side lines. Ford also introduced a luxury Grande model with interior wood paneling, a quartz clock, and a 351 cid Windsor engine.

1971 to 1973. The Mustang grew larger and heavier with each passing year culminating with the 1971 to 73 models, designed under the supervision of Ford's new product design manager. Knudsen's turn at the helm would see the last high performance big block Mustang, 1971's 375 bhp 429 Super Cobra Jet. Ford originally planned to install a 460 in the Mustang as well. Unfortunately, that very same body style that was designed for the sole purpose of big block installation versions was limited to a maximum of 351 cid (5.8 L) in 1972 and in 1973, due to extremely strict U.S emission control regulations and low demand for big block muscle cars due to high insurance premiums. Two more high performance engines were introduced in 1972, the 351 (HO) and 351 Cobra Jet.

1974 to 1978. The 1974 introduction of the Mustang '2' earned Ford Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year honors again and actually returned the car to more than a semblance of its 1964 predecessor in size, shape, and overall styling. Though Iacocca insisted that the Mustang '2' be finished to quality standards unheard of in the American auto industry, the Mustang '2' suffered from being not only smaller than the original car, but heavier as well due to the federal emission and safety regulations and its build quality could be described as only (mediocre) no better than other Ford or Detroit products of the day. Available as a hardtop or three door hatch, the new car's base engine was a 2.3 L SOHC I4, the first fully metric engine built in the U.S. for installation in an American car. A 2.8 L v6 was the sole optional engine, meaning the popular V8 option would disappear for the first and only time in 1974, and Ford was swamped by buyer mail and criticized in the automotive press for it.

1975 to 1978. Since the car was never meant to have a V8, it became a mad scramble to re-engineer the car in order to reinstate the 302 cid (5.0 L) V8 option in time for the 1975 model year, but only with a two barrel carburetor and 140 bhp. To make the V8 option fit changes were made to the front fenders, engine bay, and header panel. To help boost sales Ford introduced the Cobra '2' package in 1976, and the King Cobra in 1978. On the momentum of the Mustang '2's successful sales, and under the direction of Ford's new styling chief, a totally new Mustang hit the streets for 1979.

1979 to Now. For 1979 an all new Mustang hit the dealerships. Larger and based on the "Fox" platform the new Mustang deviated from the smaller compact Mustangs of the past. The interior was completely redone and could now seat four in comfort, even with the smaller back seat of a sports car. The new Mustang also enjoyed a good deal more trunk space, and a bigger engine bay for better serviceability. The 2.3 liter 4 cylinder from the earlier car was continued, but refined, as well as a new turbocharged version rated at 132 bhp. It was dropped after one year, due to terrible reliability issues. The Mustang '2's 2.8 cologne 171 cid V6, made by Ford of Europe, was continued only for a year. The low revving 302 also returned, rated at 140 bhp at 3200 rpm. Mustang was again chosen for pace car for duties Indianapolis 500. Ford commemorate the honor with an "Indy 500" pace car edition. The 1979 model introduced metric wheels and tires, the tires being manufactured by Michelin as their TRX model. Ford's 200 cid inline six replaced the Cologne 2.8 L V6 for 1980, The new 255 cid V8 was the only V8 offered in 1980 and 1981. In essence a de bored 302, the 255 had restrictive heads, a pathetic camshaft, and managed to wheeze out a paltry 118 bhp, the lowest power ever for a Mustang V8, although it was questionable that it even produced 118 hp. This motor is really not a viable option to build up. The block and internals were of poor quality and do not take to increased horsepower well.

The Mustang was revived with the reintroduction of the Mustang GT in 1982, bringing more V8 power from the 302 cid (5.0 L) via new valves, a more aggressive cam, a larger 2 barrel carburetor, and better breathing intake and exhaust systems. It was rated at 157 bhp. For performance fans, this Mustang brought them back to the fold. With the 302, it was one of the quickest domestic cars in america. In 1982, Ford reintroduced a high performance Mustang GT which opened the door for an entirely new era of the muscle car. Wringing a then respectable 157 hp from its 5.0 L (actually 4.94 L, 302 cid) V8 and backed by a four speed transmission, aggressive tires, and stiff suspension, magazine ads of the period shouted, "The Boss Is Back." A four barrel carburetor and aluminum intake manifold in '83 and '84 bumped power to 175 bhp, and 247 ft·lbf of torque. The 1984 Mustang was to get a 205 bhp 5.0 L, but this motor was delayed to '85, and the rating was revised to 210 bhp with 270 ft·lbf of torque. It got its power from a new, more aggressive roller cam, a less restrictive exhaust system with tubular headers and dual mufflers and tailpipes, and new cylinder heads. For those interested in modifying, the '85 Mustang also got forged pistons in place of the '84 and earlier's sandcast pistons. This combination was stout, but short lived. In 1986, the first fuel injected 5.0 L made its debut. Much like the first 4.6 GTs a decade later, this setup didn't rev very high, and made peak power at about 5200 rpm. The good news is that they were very strong until then, thanks to the E6 Turbo swirl heads, an intake manifold with very long runners, higher compression, and the first true dual exhaust system (with 4 catalytic converters) on a Mustang in over a decade. It was rated at 200 horsepower, down a few from the '85, but the torque rating rose to 285 ft·lbf.. In 1994, the Mustang underwent its first major redesign in 15 years. The design, code named "SN-95" by Ford, was based on an updated version of the RWD Fox platform known as Fox-4. It featured dramatically new styling that incorporated some stylistic elements similar to those on earlier Mustangs. The base model came with a 3.8 l V6 engine rated at 145 bhp while the GT still featured the 5.0 L V8, now utilizing the 5.0 L Thunderbird intake manifold, a 60 mm throttle body, and a 215 horsepower rating. The Cobra model also returned, with its GT40 equipped 5.0 L engine, now rated at 240 bhp. The Mustang was named Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year for the third time in 1994. The Mustang Cobra convertible was selected as the pace car in the Indianapolis 500, making it the third time that the Mustang had enjoyed such an honor. As the result, one thousand pace car replicas were built and sold through select dealers. The base Mustang uses a 210 bhp SOHC Ford Cologne V6 engine replacing the 3.8 L pushrod V6. The GT has an all aluminum 300 hp 4.6 L 3 valve modular V8. The Mustang GT has a top speed of 143 mph and the Shelby GT500 is electronically limited to 150 mph. The S-197 Mustang retained the traditional live rear axel due to its cost, durability, and simplicity. The V6 comes with a standard Tremec T-5 manual transmission while the GT model is equipped with a more rugged TremecTR 3650 gearbox. Both V6 and V8 models comes with an optional 5 speed 5R55S automatic transmission. The 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 is equipped with the durable TremecTR 6060 transmission. The factory stock S-197 Mustang GT equipped with the TR 3650 will perform a quarter mile test in 13.9 seconds at 103 mph. The front suspension had been revised to improve steering response while the rear suspension added a three linked system to control the vertical and lateral movements of the axle. Unlike the GT, the V6 version lacks a rear sway bar that caused severe oversteer on hard cornering.

Ford's huge Expedition 4X4

Truth is, even though overall SUV sales have been falling slightly over the past few months, they are here to stay. Due to high competition and demand, they are constantly being revised to see which one can outperform the other. Revised or not, one of the best full size models is the Ford Expedition.
With six different trim levels to choose from, you can definitely "have it your way". The XLS serves as the base model by offering black door handles and mirrors, a single cd player and a few other features. The XLT offers aluminum wheels, body colored handles, overhead console and illuminated entry. Just up from that is the XLT Sport, which mainly offers exterior revisions that make it a little fancier than a regular XLT. The NBX comes only as a 4x4 with 17" wheels, skid plates, and specially tuned off road shocks. The Eddie Bauer model is one of the more popular choices with buyers. It is equipped with dual zone climate, power adjustable pedals, and heated side mirrors. The head honcho is the Limited model and it comes with 10 way power adjustable front seats that can be heated or cooled. All mirrors, handles, and side cladding are also the same color as the rest of the body. Expect MSRP pricing to start around 33,000 to 42,000.
If there’s one thing Americans love in their cars it’s torque. Thanks to the new electronic throttle control, the Expedition snaps off the line and provides adequate acceleration through the power band. With 0 to 60mph coming in around nine seconds it’s not the most powerful V8 on the market, but it gets the job done when needed because the ETC can adapt better to your acceleration demands. A new 4 speed auto transmission adds even more smoothness to the ride.
Jump inside the 2005 Expedition and you’ll find a revised instrument panel and circular air vents. Of course there are the standard SUV features like DVD and navigation, but there is also the PowerFold third row seat. Yes, a power folding third row seat. No more reaching and pulling with all your might to get those seats down so you can have more room. Also available is a sliding second row seat, which enables the front seat occupants to move that seat closer to them. This is sure to be a big hit for those of you transporting your little ones in the second row because you won’t have to reach so far back to tend to their needs.
While you’re thinking about your child’s safety, stop for a minute and think about yours too. The Expedition is the only full size SUV to score the highest frontal crash test rating 4 years in a row, dating back to 2001. Speaking of safety, you’ll be at ease if you ever have to go off the beaten path. The Expedition’s first in class independent rear suspension allows each wheel to act independently, resulting in better grip and maneuverability.
Under the hood, Ford has taken pains to make the Expedition the most planet-friendly full size SUV possible. Both the standard 232 BHP 4.6 liter V8 and the optional 260 BHP 5.4 liter V8 meet Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEV) standards. The 5.4 V8 has been redesigned for quieter operation, and i'd recommend it. The 4.6 equipped Expedition i drove had a hard time getting up to 65 mph on the motorway, which wasn't a surprise given the Expedition's five thousand plus pound curb weight. Expeditions can tow up to 8900 pounds. A computer controlled transmission recognizes heavy loads, and adjusts its shifting accordingly.

And our next Blog will be called (Ford Mustangs 1964 to present).
